‘Los Serrano’ is many things. It is the symbol of a much more innocent Spain, of an ending that will go down in infamy, of the most iconic role of Antonio Resines, from that time when a teenage group could still release two albums with a name as ridiculous as the Santa Justa Klan and despite everything being a hit But now 20 years have passed since its beginning (and 15 since its end) and Telecinco is not in the business of remembering better times.
Tuno plus tuno equals seven
When the cast of ‘Los Serrano’ announced on different programs (for example, Antonio Resines went to ‘La Resistencia’ to comment on it) the meeting to celebrate the anniversary, many of us thought that Telecinco would leave a small space in his usual programming of reality shows and gossip to remember the good old days. But none of that: in the end, the meeting for the anniversary has taken place… in a video clip.
Fran Perea has joined Despistaos, the group that put the music to ‘Física o química’ (and their unbeatable “alternative medicine, your saliva in my saliva”), to do a very special version of ‘One plus one equals seven’. And it is that they all appear again, from Belén Rueda to a now streamer Jorge Jurado, making nostalgic smiles. Sadly, this is all we will see of the reunion: hugs, tears and hum “On a station platform under the burning sun” once again, as if we were in 2003.
And then what will happen to the reunion itself? Well Mediaset has decided to condemn the tribute to ‘Los Serrano’ to the most absolute ostracism. “This is the only reunion that you will be able to see of the Serrano family and it has been possible thanks to Fran Perea and Víctor Elías,” commented Natalia Sánchez on Instagram. The key producer of Telecinco did not buy the reunion special and instead has programmed a tribute in which its creator, Daniel Écija, and no one from the cast will appear. When will you be able to see it? At eleven o’clock on Saturday morning. Star hours, as you can see.
In a Telecinco trying to find its own identity it seems that there is no place for nostalgia and the glory of a series that averaged some five million viewers for which the channel would now kill. Not making room for a reunion of ‘Los Serrano’ but buying and broadcasting in prime time the documentary on Ana Obregón’s surrogate pregnancy and post-mortem tells us a lot about the place to which the chain wants to be dragged. Now completely removed from family content, ‘Los Serrano’ It has no place even in the mere memory of a Telecinco doubling the bet for a content in which one plus one are always content to fill hours in ‘Save me’.
