The absolute masterpiece that has been the last episode of ‘She-Hulk: She-Hulk Lawyer’ brought us the occasional twist and the introduction of a new character in the family of the emerald colossi: Skaar, the son of Hulk.
Something that comes to resolve (although not completely), one of the loose threads that the first episodes of ‘She-Hulk’ left us. Specifically, the second episode showed us the character of Mark Ruffalo traveling in a spaceship to Sakaarplanet that we already saw in ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ and in which the crashed Hulk ended up becoming the supreme gladiator.
The details about this trip are very brief., but it seems clear that it will be the subject of a future movie (or new season / series?) starring Bruce Banner. In fact, there are the odd “untitled Marvel film” on Disney’s release schedule where this could be explored. But exactly where does Skaar come from?
world war hulk
Skaar debuted in a ‘What If…’, Marvel’s alternate story anthology. Specifically, Greg Pak and Leonard Kirk They reimagined the ending of ‘Planet Hulk’the magnificent saga in which we see how Hulk survives as a gladiator on Sakaar.
In the “canonical” ending, Hulk is crowned king, but the ship in which he arrived at the planet explodes taking away the capital and the life of his wife, Caiera. This would enrage the hero who would go to Earth declaring ‘World War Hulk’. The alternative version proposed that it was the Hulk who died, saving Caiera from the explosion. At the end of the comic Skaar would come out, shadowed.
While he debuted in an alternate history, Pak already had planned his appearance on Earth-616, the main of the comics. Specifically in ‘World War Hulk’ 5, drawn by John Romita Jr. Thus, we would discover that the explosion in Sakaar did not destroy the cocoon from which Skaar would emerge shortly after as a “teenager”. After some wanderings on his planet, he would be sent to Earth.
Skaar has an appearance similar to his father, with whom he shares super strength, resistance, his healing factor, etc. In addition, the boy also inherited the Ancient power from his mother, an ability that allows him to control the landrock and even lava.
As you know, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is quite different from the comics in how the stories of the heroes have been developing. In fact, the Hulk’s presence on Sakaar in ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ has little to do with it despite a couple of common elements. This causes us to have a bit of a blank canvas when developing the origin of Skaar.
what we don’t know is how this character will return since, at the moment, there are no official confirmations neither of movies starring the Hulk (a ‘Planet Hulk’ and a ‘World War Hulk’ are highly expected) or of a second season of ‘She-Hulk’. Bearing in mind that KEVIN does not stitch without thread, we will surely find out soon enough.
