In the third season, broadcast between October 2003 and May 2004, Erica Durance, then an unknown actress, joined the cast, who was in charge of bringing Superman’s great love, Lois Lane, to life.
From Canada to Smallville
Erica Durance was born on June 21, 1978, in Calgary, Canada, and was raised on a farm in Alberta. In 1999, after graduating from high school, Durance moved to Vancouver to train as an actress, taking classes at an academy, where she met her current husband, David Palffy.
In 2002, Durance made her debut in the film The Untold, followed by opportunities on such shows as The Chris Isaak Show, The Collector, Tru Calling and Stargate SG-1.
For the year 2004 Erica Durance is chosen by producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar to play Lois Lane, Clark Kent’s romantic interest.
For the fourth season Durance became part of the regular cast of the series, which was broadcast until May 2011.
During her Smallville years, Erica Durance’s beauty not only captivated the young Clark Kent, she also charmed the audience, placing her among the 100 sexiest women on television by distinguished magazines such as Maxim.
life after smallville
Erica Durance’s career continued in television movies, and also the opportunity to return to a starring role returned in the series Saving Hope, where she played Doctor Alex Reid, in a project that took place in 2018.
On a personal level, Erica Durance and her husband became the parents of a child in 2014, and two years later the couple welcomed their second child.
The return to DC Comics and its crisis
In 2017, the DC Universe again needed the histrionic abilities of Erica Durance, who gave life to Alura Zor-El, the biological mother of Kara Zor-El in the Supergirl series, which she played for 10 episodes.
Durance replaced actress Laura Benanti, who was unable to reprise this role due to problems with her schedule.
But a crisis would take her back to the role of Lois Lane, since for the Arrowverse event Crisis on Infinite Earths Durance played the intrepid reporter again in a special appearance alongside Tom Welling, within the second chapter, which was seen in the Batwoman series.
“My first thought was something like ‘Really? How are you going to handle this? But the writers are spectacular at how they’re able to bring all the different shows and all these different characters together. So she was very curious at first, but she was excited to play Lois again.”.
In addition to her acting career and her role as a mother, Durance also participates in fan conventions and reunions with her Smallville series peers. The Canadian has set foot on Mexican lands for the conventions that have been held in Mexico City.
