The film directed by brothers Joe and Anthony Russo brought us the end of the path of Tony Stark / Iron Man, who used the infinity stones to defeat Thanos’s army, although this caused his death.
While Iron Man’s physical disappearance was an event that shocked the MCU, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige had a darker idea that he shared with the filmmakers.
Who did Kevin Feige want to see die in Avengers: Endgame?
In an interview for the Happy Sad Confussed podcast, Joe and Anthony Russo revealed that Kevin Feige suggested to the filmmakers in the early stages of production to kill off Iron Man, Captain America and Thor.

“Kevin actually pitched at one point taking all the original players off the board“, explained Joe Russo, in the interview. “We thought that it was too aggressive and that the audience wouldn’t be able to process it, and that actually choosing one or two characters to make sacrifices throughout the movie could give you moments throughout the movie where the action could stop and you might have emotional catharsis and then continue with the narrative and then have more emotional catharsis“.
While Anthony Russo mentioned that despite Kevin Feige’s aggressive idea, this never made it into the script but noted that in the process of writing the script he felt that no one was assured of its continuity.
“Kevin from the beginning had pitched this idea that it was like ‘Toy Story 3’ where everyone should jump into the fire to save the universe… We thought you had to step up storytelling on something on this scale, so we weren’t quite sure how the math would add up to get to that“.
While their lineup won’t be the same, the Avengers will return in Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a two-part event; Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, this last tape could mark the return of the Russo brothers to the ranks of Marvel Studios.
