One of the soap operas off camera in recent months has been the tensions between Kevin Costner and Taylor Sheridan, protagonist and creator respectively of ‘Yellowstone’. In the middle of the awards season, it began to be noticed that something was happening (and certain gestures were seen on the occasional red carpet) and finally last May the departure of the actor from the series was confirmed.
A march that, without a doubt, precipitated the premature closure of the modern western, whose second part of the now final season is scheduled for next November. After weeks of bickering, Sheridan has broken the silence around to the shocking abandonment of the actor.
“I’m disappointed”declares Sheridan in a lengthy report for The Hollywood Reporter, “it truncates the closure of his character. He does not alter it, but truncates it. » The writer and director admits that yes, that the idea was that John Dutton would not be in the very end of the series, an end that will follow the main lines of the original script of ‘Yellowstone’, when it was going to be a movie.
what a couple of ranchers
With Kevin Costner wanting to dedicate himself to finally moving forward ‘Horizon‘, an ambitious western saga that would consist of four films co-written, directed and starring him (the first is already finished and the second is about to finish filming), things got extremely complicated in terms of the schedule:
“My last conversation with Kevin was that he had this passion project that he wanted to direct. He and the network were discussing when he could finish “Yellowstone.” He said “Surely we can set up a schedule towards [la fecha pensada por Costner]”, which we did.”
However, it seems that this was not the case. Workers of the series report that the agendas did not quite add up and although Costner agreed with the production on certain shooting dates., sometimes it had to be postponed due to a delay in the scripts and other circumstances. This ended up eroding the relationship between those responsible for the series and the actor, with rumors of bad feelings between them. Something that doesn’t seem the case:
“My opinion of Kevin as an actor hasn’t changed. John Dutton’s creation of him is symbolic and powerful… and I’ve never had a problem with Kevin that we couldn’t resolve over the phone. But once there are lawyers involved, then people stop talking to each other and start saying things that aren’t true and try to shift the blame based on how the press or the public seem to react. He has been very damaged by this and I don’t know if anyone deserves it. His movie seems like a big priority for him and he wants to change the focus. I hope that [la película] deserve it… and be good.”
From Paramount they are carrying out conversations with Kevin Costner, negotiating so that the actor can participate in this end of ‘Yellowstone’. An ending that, according to Sheridan, is not yet fully written. The scriptwriter warns, yes, that he will not get rid of Dutton in a sudden and tragic way: “I don’t do ‘fuck you’ car accidents”jokes Sheridan.
