The pioneer of terror found footage ‘The Blair Witch Project’ (The Blair Witch Project) appeared and changed the rules of the genre in 1999, later generating its own expanded universe, which includes mockumentaries, official films in 2000 and 2016, as well as multiple books and video games that They have served to deepen his universe. But now it looks like we’ll have another Blair Witch movie in the theater.
In search of revitalizing a saga
Last April it was rumored that Lionsgate was looking to relaunch the franchise and Production Weekly brings an update this week reporting that Oliver Park has been hired to direct “Untitled Blair Witch Sequel” for Lionsgate and is reportedly targeting a late summer/fall shoot. Park is the British director behind this year’s ‘The Offering’, a curious horror film with roots in Jewish culture that was beyond his reach.
The producer attached to the project is Haxan Films, that is, the team behind the original Blair Witch Project. These details have not been confirmed by Lionsgate, but both Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez are listed as producers, the writers and directors of the original classic who were not related to Adam Wingard’s very poor ‘Blair Witch’ (2016), which was not exactly a huge blockbuster.
The directors of the original film have never given up hope of one day returning to the franchise to breathe new life into it, because oddly enough, the creators Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez have not had the opportunity to contribute many ideas in any of the following films, despite having a large number of suggestions that have never been taken into account, some of them you can see below.
