A few years ago, Matt Damon made a big revelation about his career: he refused to star in the first ‘Avatar’. The surprising thing about the situation is that, before the original 2009 film became the highest grossing film of all time, James Cameron offered the actor 10% of the profits. When Damon refused, he unknowingly spent a quarter of a billion dollarswhich is effectively more than any actor in history has earned for a movie.
A decision that stings
Now, with ‘Avatar: The Sense of Water’ in theaters, James Cameron has responded to the actorand when asked if he had spoken to Matt Damon lately, he laughed and said:
“He’s beating himself up about it. And really, I think, you know, ‘Matt, you’re like one of the biggest movie stars in the world, get over it.’ But he actually had to do another Bourne movie that was on his schedule and there was nothing we could do about it. So he had to decline with much regret.”
Matt Damon is still doing well even though he effectively lost $250 million. Later, during an interview with BBC Radio, James Cameron Responded On Whether He Would Consider Matt Damon Now For A Sequel Rolemaybe with a cameo:
“It has to be done, we have to do it to bring the world back into balance. But he won’t get 10% anymore, to hell with that.”

The massive number of ‘Avatar’ that ranks it above any other film in history at $2.922 million around the world. The sequel has 441 million in international markets, but it has a whole Christmas campaign left with a large majority of the rooms full with its film
