It still has a long way to go to return to pre-pandemic normality, but box office figures have improved substantially in 2022. We have a good example of today with the phenomenal success of ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, without forgetting the great income of ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’, but the truth is that the biggest record of the year belongs to a much smaller film.
Sweeping on a small scale
The film in question is ‘Everything at the same time everywhere’, the acclaimed science fiction film that uses the concept of the multiverse in a very ingenious way. And what is your record? Be the first film from the A24 production company to exceed $100 million of worldwide collection, destroying in the process the previous mark of the highest grossing title of the study.
The record was set until recently by 80.2 million of dollars that ‘Hereditary’ amassed at the time, so it has been several weeks since ‘Everything at once everywhere’ had surpassed it. However, exceeding 100 million grosses is a milestone for independent and original cinema.
There will be those who think that these figures are nothing spectacular. After all, several films exceed that amount in just one weekend, but the key here is that the cinema cannot feed only on franchises. It is worth that there are spectators who only come to see this type of film, but the future would be very dark if the risk of works like ‘Everything at once everywhere’ disappeared. They need more like this -and by that I don’t mean clones of the movie the daniels–
