Previously, the French author has already won numerous prizes, including the Renaudot and the Formentor, but the Nobel Prize for Literature is one more medal in her career that has already been made to beg.
According to the prize committee, he was finally awarded the Nobel Prize “for the courage and clinical precision with which he reveals the roots, estrangements and collective obstacles to personal memory. With great courage and clinical acumen, Annie Ernaux reveals the agony of the classroom experience, describing shame, humiliation, jealousy, or the inability to see who you are.”
In addition to the recognition of his work, the Nobel Prize for Literature is accompanied by an economic prize of 10 million Swedish crowns, which is equivalent to about 918 thousand euros.
“I consider it a great honour, and at the same time a great responsibility that I am given with the award,” Ernaux told Swedish television. “That is, to manifest a form of equality, of justice, in relation to the world.”
