The Guardians of the Galaxy of the MCU will be back sooner than expected in Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
This summer we will see the Guardians of the Galaxy return twice. In addition to appearing in Thor: Love and Thunder in July, Marvel Studios’ group of misfit superheroes are also the stars of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. Attraction that opens on May 27 at the Walt Disney World EPCOT, an innovative “roller coaster”which allows fans to experience saving the galaxy alongside Star-Lord, Rocket and the rest of the crew of the kite.
The adventure begins when EPCOT guests enter the pavilion Wonders of Xandar to learn more about Xandarian culture and technology. During a performance, the Celestial Eson seizes Xandar’s cosmic generator in order to rewind time; and it’s up to the Terran visitors, and the Guardians, to save the galaxy. Again.
Yes ok Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind was a challenge in terms of its revolutionary spinning and reverse launch vehicles, bringing the director’s vision from the James Gunn movies to life, and translating it into an attraction was quite a challenge.
Walt Disney Imagineering explained that translating the MCU’s signature Guardians of the Galaxy style that they referred to as “arrogant”It was incredibly important because it’s so recognizable and inherent to the property.
James Gunn’s vision was very important
In addition to joining James Gunn on the set of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to film the live-action footage of the attraction, Disney Imagineering claimed that “they talked to Gunn” while creating the attraction and that the director also participated in the “script revisions” of attraction. They also shared that they looked a lot from the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie to replicate the look and design of Xandar. In fact, they included Xandarian forms and their physical language in almost everything, including the attraction’s safety signs; and design elements of the Kyln from the 2014 film can also be seen on the attraction’s building.
Although Disney’s Marvel attractions are not considered canon and exist in their own timeline, EPCOT’s Cosmic Rewind is pure Guardians of the Galaxy fun and 100 percent lives up to what fans have seen on screen. .
Disney has long been known for its authenticity and attention to detail in its theme parks, and Marvel fans are sure to appreciate Imagineering’s commitment to bringing James Gunn’s cosmic world into our own.
It is not the first attraction of the MCU superhero team
Still, this isn’t the first Guardians of the Galaxy theme park attraction that Imagineering has created or that James Gunn and the cast have been a part of.
Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout! opened at Disney California Adventure at the Disneyland Resort in 2017, paving the way for the Avengers Campus of the park, which officially debuted in 2021.
But still, it was important that Disney got Cosmic Rewind right. Not only is this the first MCU attraction built at Walt Disney World, but contract issues mean it could be the last. Also, while Mission: Breakout! takes place entirely within The Collector’s FortressCosmic Rewind was tasked with recreating elements of Xandar, portraying a Celestial, and taking guests through the far reaches of outer space.
Despite such challenges, Disney appears to have succeeded, offering fans an entirely new way to experience a Marvel adventure and one that stays true to the essence that James Gunn has brought to the franchise.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will premiere at Walt Disney World’s EPCOT on May 27.
