The fourth season of ‘You’ has just arrived on Netflix and the psychological thriller did not lack criticism at the time. From romanticize stalkers to having a “too sexy” protagonist for the type of story he was telling, there were all kinds of comments for what has ended up being one of the most successful series on the platform.
Despite the controversy, ‘You’ is still a gold minebut its protagonist has not been shy about criticizing other Netflix series that have unintentionally stolen hearts.
each with his own
Penn Badgley He plays Joe Goldberg, the protagonist of ‘You’, who in the first season becomes obsessed with a woman and begins to tirelessly harass her. Over time, the series has grown beyond this premise and viewers have gotten to know Joe better, but still Badgley has criticized Netflix’s tendency to glorify and romanticize certain individuals in its productions.
“You have to look inside,” the actor said, pointing to his heart. “To be fair, on our show you’re supposed to fall in love with Joe, that’s our fault. But Ted Bundy? That’s your thing…Jeffrey Dahmer? That’s Netflix’s fault. That’s completely Netflix’s responsibility. Netflix.”
Another of the platform’s great successes was ‘Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story’, which had Evan Peters as the protagonist and also took his share of criticism for glorifying his figure. And there were also those who found themselves attracted to Peters like Dahmer, just like what happened at the time with the Ted Bundy biopic starring Zac Efron which can also be found on Netflix.
Badgley also commented that he’s given a lot of thought to why there’s such an attraction to characters like Joe, or to portrayals of these serial killers… but hasn’t come up with anything concrete beyond that he finds it “weird.”
