When James Gunn’s plans regarding the return of Superman to the big screen were revealed, one of the unknowns was who would be the filmmaker in charge of bringing the story of Superman: Legacy.

“Yes, I am directing Superman: Legacy which will be released on July 11, 2025. My brother Matt told me that when he saw the release date he burst into tears. I asked him why. He said, “Old man, it’s daddy’s birthday.” he had not noticed me ”.
Gunn will join a select group of filmmakers including Richard Donner, Bryan Singer and Zack Snyder as those tasked with bringing the Man of Steel mythology to theaters.
This is the second film that James Gunn will direct for Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Comics, after doing a “soft reboot” of the Suicide Squad franchise.
In 2022 Warner Bros. Discovery appointed James Gunn and Peter Safran as presidents of DC Studios, where they will usher in a whole new era to bring the DC Universe to film, television, animation and video games.
