McAvoy played Charles Xavier in four feature films between 2011 and 2019, including X-Men: Days of the Future Past, where he was able to alternate with Patrick Stewart, the first Charles Xavier on the big screen.
In an interview for an English magazine, which compiles CBR, James McAvoy denied rumors that there was a bad relationship between him and Marvel, noting that he enjoyed his time in the X-Men franchise to the fullest.
“It was one of the most positive experiences I’ve ever had with a studio. Not really [los veo como solo] money concerts. X-Men: Days of the Future Past is one of the best movies I’ve ever been involved in.”
Even McAvoy pointed out that in his time within the X-Men franchise he would have liked to explore more the friendship between Charles Xavier and Magneto, beyond their rivalry in the comics.
“So it was like, why did we just eject that massive weapon?”
Will James McAvoy return in Avengers: Secret Wars as Charles Xavier?
In 2022 Patrick Stewart surprised everyone by returning as Charles Xavier in a brief appearance in Doctor Strage: In the Multverse of Madness. He added to the fact that Hugh Jackman will return as Wolverine in Deadpool 3, a film that will be produced by Marvel Studios.
When asked about a possible return as Charles Xavier in Avengers: Secret Wars, from 2026, McAvoy pointed out that his time as the leader of the X-Men is in the past and for now he prefers to focus on new projects.
“I’m quick to say, ‘No, I’m done.’ Or ‘I’m not that upset about coming back’”, pointed out the Briton who pointed out that he was not invited by Sam Raimi to participate in the second Doctor Strange tape, dismissing the rumors that arose on social networks.
