A couple decided that on their wedding day the children would not be invited to the event, they knew that it was a controversial decision, since on such an important date no one in the family expects to be excluded.
As was logical, some relatives did not take his controversial decision well. For this reason, although several months have passed since the wedding took place, those offended still do not forgive them for the slight and have chosen not to speak to the newlyweds.
There are many details to define to carry out a wedding, although it is increasingly common for couples to choose to leave out the little ones in their celebrations, arguing that they are events for adults.
This is what Jenny Marín and José Salcedo did, who got married in Rockford, Illinois, United States, one day in August 2022. The couple wanted a perfect wedding and from the beginning they considered not inviting any children from their families, because when they did accounts, there were around 20 little ones who would have to be included in the celebration.
In interview for NewsweekJenny admitted that this was something she had decided from the beginning, but what was not clear to her was how she would do it, since she feared a negative reaction from her relatives.
Making this decision was not an easy one, because it tends to be frowned upon or considered rude if we decide not to invite everyone we have come across. Within our Latino culture, we are known for large family gatherings and for welcoming everyone.
The woman argues that it was not a good environment for children to attend, since there was too much alcohol at the party. Also, the decoration in the room included a lot of glass things, as well as lighted candles, so it wasn’t safe to have kids running all over the place, but Jenny admits that she was disappointed by the attitude of some of her family members.
I have relatives who stopped speaking to me because of this decision. I considered them very important people in my life and I saw them quite often since my family likes to have family gatherings. I certainly didn’t expect them to turn their backs on me the way they did, it was disappointing.
