There is less than a month left for the premiere of ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’. The huge investment made in the Amazon Prime Video series forces it to be little less than one of the greatest television successes in history, something already difficult in itself, but even more so with the tough competition from ‘The House of the Dragon’. In fact, there are already some other complaints towards the series before its premiere and the creators of it they have now wanted to silence one of the most widespread criticisms.
“ANDThis story is not ours”
During this year’s TCA a panel was dedicated to ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’, where there was a question that bothered the heads of the series. So much so that Patrick McKay, wanted to make one thing very clear:
I just want to quibble about ‘loosely connected.'” We don’t feel that way. We feel that the deep roots of this series are in the books and in Tolkien. it’s not ours. It’s a story that we’re managing that was here before us and was waiting in those books to be on Earth. We don’t feel “loosely connected.” We feel very, very connected to those people and we work every day to be even more connected. That’s how we really think about it.
And it is that the critic who made that statement was not the first person to complain about ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ for its alleged little connection to anything written by Tolkien. With this statement, it is clear that they want to meet that complaint once and for all and make it clear to us that their goal has always been to draw as much inspiration as possible from everything we already know about Middle-earth.
That does not mean that the Amazon Prime Video series surely ends up receiving harsh attacks for not being faithful to the original work, surely forgetting that there was not so much Tolkien material from this time of Middle-earth either. Next September 2 we will begin to clear up doubts.
