The Internet has not only become an entertainment site, it has also promoted digital commerce, although it is not always well used. Proof of this is the story of a woman who used her Facebook account to try to sell her own daughter.
The crime of this woman has caused a commotion in society in general, since there is talk of trafficking in minors. Fortunately, the authorities managed to find the whereabouts of the minor, who is already under her protection while her parent is tried with the full weight of the law.
Mayra “N”, 24 years old, put her own six-month-old baby up for sale through Facebook. The woman asked for a sum of 100 thousand dollars in cash.
If it is already incredible that the little girl’s own mother would do something like this, it is even more so that an American man agreed to make the purchase. Due to the nationality of the “buyer”, the FBI intervened in the case, alerting authorities in Ecuador, where the mother of the minor is from.
The FBI set up an operation in Ecuador with the help of an undercover agent who posed as a second buyer to obtain sufficient evidence against the woman, achieving her arrest and the protection of the minor.
We arrested a citizen, who through social networks would be offering an infant (daughter) for a high amount of money.
– Fausto Salinas Samaniego, General Commander of the National Police of Ecuador
Mayra “N” will face charges for human trafficking, a crime that is punishable by up to 16 years in prison in Ecuador, but the sentence could increase up to 19 years, this due to the relationship that the trafficker has with the baby.
