As time progresses, the beauty industry is innovating with products, techniques, and trends to make us look beautiful at all times. All this to meet the needs of a population in constant movement.
This is why, in recent years, it has become very common to have one or another permanent or semi-permanent procedure to save us from rushing in the morning and not have to worry about outlining the eyebrow, ironing our hair or putting on mascara.
Although all this has made our lives easier, it is true that there can be a lot of risks that can threaten the health and well-being of our body. Worst of all, it is not just one, but many factors that influence a successful aesthetic process.
Like the place where you do it, if the person is trained, the cleanliness of the material to be used and, most importantly, that your own body does not reject the products, causing an allergic reaction with serious consequences.
The latter was exactly what happened to the Brazilian nurse Valéria Campos, who is a fan of applying eyelash extensions. The girl had been using them for a year, so she never imagined that she could develop an allergy to the procedure.
However, when she returned to the beauty salon to have her eyelashes maintained, for which they only applied the ones that had fallen out, she noticed that something unusual was happening. Three hours after the procedure, Valéria began to present redness, swelling and severe pain in her eyes, but she had to wait until the next day to go back to the salon to remove the extensions.
The professional used the same materials that I was already used to. But as the hours passed, my eye swelled up and hurt more and more.
– Valéria, in an interview for the BBC
Once they were removed, she went directly to the Belo Horizonte hospital, where she was sent to eye care in an emergency. There she was explained that she had an infection, but they did not know if it was because of the glue or because of the synthetic eyelash.
Fortunately, his eyesight was not compromised and he was able to return home under a seven-day course of antibiotics. The only thing that she changed was the appearance of her natural eyelashes, since they became weak and she lost a good amount of them.
Definitely, this could end much worse, because there are many cases of women who have been blinded, even temporarily, by the use of these strong chemicals in an area as sensitive as the eye area.
It is important to remember that health comes before aesthetics, so we must try to take care of ourselves as well as possible and not undergo processes that represent a health risk.
