According to NJ Advance Media, 27-year-old transgender inmate Demi Minor was transferred to a men’s jail after she impregnated two inmates during her stay at the Edna Mahan Correctional Center for Women in Burlington County. New Jersey, United States.
Demi is known to be serving a 30-year sentence for involuntary manslaughter and is a candidate for parole in 2037. However, the move to the new facility comes nearly three months after it was reported that the inmate transgender impregnated two women while having consensual sex.
After she was transferred to the New Jersey State Prison, Demi reported that her life was in danger and claimed to have been abused by guards when she was transferred.
I tried to ask the officers if a female officer could undress me, because that was what I felt comfortable doing. The lieutenant refused and scoffed at me when I asked for this; he said that if he did not follow his orders, he would allow two male officers to undress me, he would take off all my clothes and put me in a dry cell.
This could give rise to the criticism that has been generated in the wake of the news, as officials have had to deal with allegations that officers have not only sexually abused inmates, but also exploited them during the last decade.
In addition to this, Demi maintained that at all times they have referred to her person as a man despite the fact that she identifies as a trans woman. Although she has not undergone gender reassignment surgery, she asks that she continue to be called a woman.
The girl has mentioned on her blog that she has been the victim of homophobic attacks, as they have insulted her and even spat on her. She thus demands that she be returned to a female prison like the one she was in.
I have accepted that I am in a men’s facility, but I have not and will not accept that I am anything other than a woman who happens to be transgender. They’ve thrown me to the wolves and expected me to give up. I am baffled and disgusted by this power of use and can only ask that the commissioner’s office and the governors send me back. I don’t deserve to be treated like this.
