There are few things with which a child feels more comfortable than with his toy. That’s why the most wicked horror movies not only use children in the plot to draw you into the horror (unless the casting goes so badly that you want the children in question to die), they terrify them with their own toys. His emotional pillar turned into the biggest of his nightmares.
Undoubtedly something interesting they see in it since James Wan’s Atomic Monster since they have created a lot of terror with toys. Especially with dolls, as shown by the recent ‘M3GAN’ (although it has its more satirical joking side) or one of his best attempts to exploit the saga of the Warrenverso with infinite spin-offs. In this case, it is ‘Annabelle: Creation’.
The origin of the game
On HBO Max we can see both this film and its predecessor ‘Annabelle’ that begins the minisaga, although you can save the latter because the sequel takes place years before the events narrated and, in addition, it is extremely boring. Not so David F. Sandberg’s film, which has the dubious honor of being the most effective of these spin-offs emerged from the films directed by Wan.
Here we move to the middle of the 20th century, seeing the forging of the Annabelle doll and the process that leads to it. having a demon possessing her to torment the family on duty. In this case, it is in the house of the toymaker who created it and a group of orphan girls who, along with a nurse nun, have ended up in their house, being the target of this diabolical and disturbing creature.
I’m not going to deceive you, the story is the most useless part of the whole thing because, despite the fact that the film dedicates time to the drama to try to connect you emotionally with the characters, they are not minimally traced and are no longer important. It doesn’t need them anyway, ‘Annabelle: Creation’ is content to be an entertaining witch train of 109 minutes.
‘Annabelle: Creation’: dolls to flee from
The scares will vary in effectiveness, both because of the tolerance the viewer has with them and because of the work done between them. There are several who try to scare with movements in the roller of the sound and demonic appearances, but Sandberg shows some expertise when he decides harness the haunting aura of the doll and the wheel using perspectives or changes of focus.
While it may not be a brilliant movie, or as fun to watch as ‘M3GAN’, it’s the best thing to come out of the Warrenverse that doesn’t directly involve the Warrens. And it shows the ability of Wan and his team to create really creepy designs that they can give for whole movies really fixed as long as they don’t fall for the most basic tricks in the book (or don’t abuse them).
