“Man of little faith! Why have you doubted?” This phrase, theoretically, belongs to Jesus of Nazareth, but it could well have come from the mouth of James Cameron addressing all those doomsayers who predicted a huge box office hit for the sequel to ‘Avatar’. Well, ‘The sense of water’ It has already exceeded 1,749 million dollars worldwideand its top manager has —even more— things to say about it.
“Enough with the streaming!”
Cameron’s latest is already in seventh place on the list of highest-grossing feature films in history —he already has ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ in his sights—, and as explained by his top manager on the red carpet at the Golden Globes 2023 this has a clear meaning: people want to return to theaters.
“I don’t think in those terms. I think of it in terms of we’re going to theaters all over the world again. They’re going to theaters even in China, where they’re having a huge wave of COVID. States saying this as a society,’ We need this! We need to go to the theaters!’ Enough with streaming! I’m tired of sitting on my ass.”
Of course, he believes that those specimens -for being soft- who look at the mobile during the projections They don’t know very well what this is about watching movies in theaters.
“They don’t get it. When we go to the movies we make a deal with ourselves to be mindful for a couple of hours. It’s about immersing yourself… choosing to commit to it.”
For Cameron, the tipping point that left movie theaters comatose was the first year of pandemic. This is how he explained it on The Business podcast while he presents himself as a sort of resurrecting messiah.
“I feel like everyone got hooked [al streaming] when the pandemic hit, but it didn’t just hit, it killed him [al cine en salas]. We’re resurrecting him and bringing him out of the grave, but he left theaters dead for at least a year.”

A few days ago, in ‘Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace’, Cameron pointed out that the box office for ‘Avatar: The Sense of Water’ would have already covered production costs, and has practically taken for granted that pentalogy is technically a fact.
“It looks like with the momentum the movie is having right now we’ll easily break even in the next few days, so it seems like I can’t get out of this I’m going to have to do the other sequels. I know what I’m going to be doing for the next six or seven years.
The fact is that we are going to be fine. I’m sure we’ll have a discussion with the higher-ups at Disney soon about the plan for ‘Avatar 3’, which is already underway. We’ve already captured and photographed the entire movie, and we’re in post-production to do all the CGI magic. And then ‘Avatar 4’ and ‘5’ are written. We even have some of the ‘4’ done. We have started a franchise. We have started a saga that can now be developed into several films.”
As long as the continuations are just as spectacular as the sequelwe will be there to let ourselves be amazed.
