“I am not exaggerating when I say that this is a historic event for Andalusia,” celebrated the Andalusian regional president, Juan Manuel Moreno, at the press conference to announce that the biggest music awards in Spanish and Portuguese will be delivered in November at the southern region of Spain.
That “the Latin Grammy comes out of the United States for the first time is a reason for special celebration, and what better than in Andalusia,” said the executive director of the Latin Recording Academy, Manuel Abud.
The annual Latin Grammy Awards, whose first edition was in 2000, is traditionally held in Las Vegas, although on occasions it has moved to other US cities with a large Latino population, such as Miami, New York or Houston.
The president of Andalusia said that the city that will host the awards ceremony has yet to be defined, but the mayor of the Andalusian capital, Seville, seemed to anticipate that they will take place there.
“After two editions of the Goya Awards, the MTV Europe Music Awards, the great Dior parade, we have shown that Seville is prepared to host major international events (…) Next goal: The Latin Grammy Awards,” tweeted the Mayor Antonio Munoz.
Juan Manuel Moreno said that the agreement with the Latin Academy also includes the performance in Andalusia of “two great concerts in 2024 and 2025”, by artists to be confirmed.
In the preparations for all the events, Andalusia will invest some 18 million euros ($19.1 million), but these could generate up to 500 million euros ($531 million) in total, Moreno said.
The Latin Grammy Awards “is the most watched event on television in the United States among the Latino public” and is followed by millions of people around the world, which will give a boost to the “international projection of our Andalucía brand”, Moreno added.
