The writer and director Jalmari Helander, known for ‘Rare Exports’ and ‘Big Game’ returns sponsored by Liongsate presenting the spectacular uncensored trailer of ‘sisu’an epic and hyper-violent period adventure through the wild nature of Lapland in Northern Finland. ‘Sisu’, winner of the last Sitges 2022, opens in theaters in the United States on April 28, 2023.

This time, Helander once again teams up with ‘Rare Exports’ actor Jorma Tommila in a film whose synopsis reads:
“During the last desperate days of World War II, a lone gold prospector crosses paths with the Nazis at a scorched-earth retreat in northern Finland. When the Nazis steal their gold, they quickly discover that they haven’t gotten caught up with some ordinary miner who doesn’t care what the Nazis throw at him. This one-man hit squad will do anything they can to get his gold back, even if it means killing every last Nazi in their path.”
While there is no direct translation for the Finnish word “sisu,” the ex-commando in the film embodies what that term means: an unimaginable form of courage and determination in the face of overwhelming odds. The film also stars Jack Doolan, Mimosa Willamo and Onni Tommila, is produced by Petri Jokiranta and Lionsgate in association with Stage 6 Films, a Subzero Film Ent. production and Good Chaos.
In our review of ‘Sisu’Victor López said of her:
“Beyond the unexpected brilliance in the narration and staging of Jalmari Helander, if something elevates this little great rarity it is his sense of the show and the treatment of some set pieces that follow one another incessantly since the tape steps on the accelerator; reveling in his explicitness, his flawless technical execution—fantastic photography by Kjell Lagerroos—and with a hilarious implausibility”
