While we patiently wait for the good old Alex de la Iglesia premieres its brand new second season of ’30 coins’ on HBO Max, the Great N of streaming has dropped the bomb: the director from Bilbao has signed for Netflix to direct his first series on the platformcreated side by side with his inseparable friend and headline writer Jorge Guerricaechevarría.
From Max to Netflix, and I shoot because it’s my turn
The production, titled ‘1992’ —how Netflix likes number titles— will be written by Pablo Tebar and Jorge Valdanoand directed by De la Iglesia himself, and will take us to the Seville of the Expo to develop a story in the key of a thriller whose premise sounds like a 100% house brand idea.
As it has been reported, ‘1992’ will revolve around murders in which the same pattern is repeated: all the victims have been burned and a doll of the mythical Curro appears next to their bodies; the mythical giant bird that served as the event’s mascot.
If this description knows little, Álex de la Iglesia himself has contributed more clues about what we can expect with a few brief statements:
“1992 is a thriller that mixes suspense and political intrigue and that takes us back to a key moment in the recent history of our country that many of us keep in our memories.”
The filming of ‘1992’ will take place in the city of Seville itself on a date yet to be determined, so It will be time to arm yourself with patience to learn new details about what, of course, is one of the most attractive national fictions of the near future on Netfilx.
