Avatar arrives once again in theaters, and in 2022 the re-release of this film has additional scenes and a restoration with advanced technology
Movie theaters in Mexico and Latin America once again become the window to explore the world of Pandora, with the re-release of Avatar, the James Cameron film that conquered audiences in 2009 and established itself as the highest-grossing film in the history.

Development on Avatar began in 1995, three years before the release of one of the biggest hits of James Cameron’s career, Titanic. The story and character design took a decade, while the technology was developed for the filmmaker to faithfully capture his idea.
Set on the planet Pandora in the year 2154, the story takes us to Jake Sully, an ex-marine who collaborates with a land company that seeks to take over the natural resources of this planet, but Sully, who dominates an avatar of a Pandora inhabitant, is marveling at the life on the planet, which leads him to turn his back on humanity’s military ambitions to take over the planet.
Avatar: The Path of Water will be released in December 2022, and before this sequel reaches the big screen, 20th Century Studios re-releases the film that begins an ambitious project both in the cinema and in other media
Why see Avatar again in theaters?
If in 2009 you did not have the opportunity to see Avatar on the big screen, from September 22, 2022 this film will be shown in all available formats, from traditional 2D, to 3D, 4DX and in Imax.
On this occasion, cinema chains such as Cinepolis made an investment to change the LED light projectors for laser projectors, in order to give greater clarity to the image, and with it, viewers can appreciate all the details of the film.
“Today we already have 1,300 laser projectors installed and operating, we plan to end the year 2022 with 2,300 laser projectors in 17 countries. We plan to end 2023 with 3,500 projectors and by 2025 since there is no xenon lamp operating in any of the Cinépolis theaters.”, declared Miguel Mier, Director of Public Relations of Cinépolis, to express question of SMASH.
In addition, now with the support of The Walt Disney Studios, Avatar was remastered in an innovative format, Hi Frame Rate, a format that allows sequences to have movements that the human eye can capture more naturally.
“At The Walt Disney Company, for 100 years, we have been storytellers, if technology such as Hi Frame Rate serves to tell the story with the vision of director James Cameron, it is done… It depends on the vision of each filmmaker”, said David Chavez, Vice President of Marketing for The Walt Disney Company.
What extra scenes will we find in the Avatar relaunch?
In this revival, viewers will be able to enjoy the story starring Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez and Sigourney Weaver, where they will be able to appreciate even the most careful detail in the nature of Pandora.
In relation to additional material within the film, details of visual effects and sound effects were refined, so it is convenient to see this film in 3D format
The surprise for those who go to see the film in this revival is to see a scene from Avatar: The Path of Water, where JakeSully meets one of the species that navigates the waters of Pandora, which anticipates the expansion of this universe.
Avatar will be screened from September 22 to October 6 in the different theaters of the Mexican Republic and Latin America, and in some theaters functions with descriptive subtitles will be available.
