These are some of the thoughts he shared with us during the launch of the new range of Sonos Roam speakers and the Sonos Ray bar, from New York.
How did people’s relationship with sound change during the pandemic?
GM: I think in the wake of the pandemic people have valued the way they listen to music and movies more, because those were some of the few things we could do. For a long time, we have had all the music in the world at our disposal. However, with the pandemic, more than changing our music listening habits, it changed the way we consume movies.
Cinemas are having a hard time, which is sad, but the platforms of streaming They offer us incredible productions that we can enjoy at home. With the Sonos teams we have managed to create a great sound experience to enjoy these movies, something much more similar to what can be enjoyed in theaters.
How expert do we have to be to enjoy the features of a sound system?
GM: People don’t have to be sound experts to enjoy this equipment; you just have to be willing to feel things. I love the idea that those of us who work at Sonos are dedicated to doing what we are passionate about and that we do it so that the users of our equipment are not thinking about the technical characteristics of the sound that is being reproduced, but about the piece of music that listening.
How do you choose the experts that are part of the Sonos Soundboard?
GM: The council is made up of audio experts from industries such as film, music and entertainment. What interests me most about your feedback is that you tell me what we’re doing wrong. In this way, we can improve the equipment that we are producing.
How do you know if a piece of Sonos-produced equipment is on target?
GM: We hear on frequencies. Music is a harmonic noise to which we find meaning and, therefore, we like it. All the frequencies we hear cause an effect on us. They all generate different physical reactions. I listen to frequencies and can identify that one of our products is bad when something is missing. My job is to offer a vehicle that allows people to get hooked or not get hooked.
