Filmmaker James Gunn advanced on his twitter account information related to the Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas special, which will be important in the MCU, even though it will not feature the original lineup.

In another post, Gunn explained what this Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas special is about, as well as where it will premiere and why this show will be important for digital platforms.
“It’s a TV Special (not a feature film) on Disney Plus. It is part of the MCU canon and contains some important new elements in the Guardians story..”
While in another tweet, Gunn clarified that not all members of the team will be in this special, in addition to confirming between which productions this special will be located.

Who will be in the Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas special?
The official Marvel website has confirmed that the Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Special includes Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldaña (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Pom Klementieff (Mantis) , and Sean Gunn (Kraglin).
The House of Ideas has not yet revealed if the cast will include Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel, who lend their voices to Rocket Racoon and Groot, respectively.
Before Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket and Groot hit the big screen with the next Guardians of the Galaxy movie in 2023, watch the Guardians engage in some spirited antics in a new original special, created for Disney+, during the Christmas season.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Holiday Special will arrive on Disney Plus in December 2022, while Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be released in theaters on May 5, 2023.
