If you have a birthday party and no one comes, what do you do the next day? According to Telecinco, throw the same party, as is, to see if this time someone signs up. The chain has done the same with ‘Nightmare in Paradise’, which after being a resounding failure in its first season, has returned to see if with few new features, two new presenters and a somewhat juicier cast it is capable of attracting an audience who is no longer so easy to please. In his favor, Fewer contestants, a shorter contest, and being clear from the start about the type of reality show you want to be. Start life live for the ninetieth time. See what happens.
ten little contestants
If in the first ‘Nightmare in Paradise’ we end up seeing up to 21 contestants, each one less exciting than the last, here we have only ten, which are at least recognizable by fans of the Mediaset universe. People like Maite Galdeano, Kiko Jiménez, Tania (from ‘The Island of Temptations’) or Begoña Gutiérrez, little burning nails that supposedly shouldn’t fail in audiences, came in to take care of the bugs to the rhythm of ‘The A team’. Old references for an audience that, for the most part, is not going to comment on it tomorrow at the institute precisely.
The program presented a hybrid between deferred and direct (only for this pilot) showing the first days of coexistence and their arrival at the farm in question. And the first frictions came after the first foreman test, which Maite won. The woman decided to share the comfortable room with her son-in-law, Kiko, who could not complete the full family, winning immunity. A beautiful way to start in a reality show: hated by everyone.

Basically, the contestants believe that Maite and Kiko, being family members, have an advantage. And, of course, they have started to shout live: that if you are lazy by nature, that if you are rude. Well, anyway, the same as always but with other faces. Trying to cover the low budget with a blanket of shouting between four famous people from three to the room.
Mothers and sons
It is clear that if someone puts Maite Galdeano in a reality show, it is so that the audience gets hooked on the next dumb thing you do or the next crazy thing you come up with. In this case, the contestant passed the obstacle course, became a foreman and basically did what she wanted, from imitating Pantoja in front of Begoña Gutiérrez (former manager of the tonadillera) to shower naked in front of everyone. Shower that he shared, by the way, with the son of Pipi Estrada. I tell you, a stellar casting for this second season.

Borja, which is the name of the boy, has told How did you find out that your father was involved with Terelu Campos?: going to buy a magazine at the kiosk and finding it by chance. It sounds like a trauma, but he tells it entertaining: apparently, Pipi had a great time with Terelu and he gets along well with his father. The former sports journalist, best known for a first notice that he was given with a graffiti, says that he feels guilty about it and that there was tension in his house. Whatever it is, if you’re unfaithful and you get featured on a magazine cover, that leads to family tension. Who would have thought.
Well, in the end neither one nor the other has ended up nominated: the chosen ones have been Begoña Gutiérrez and Kiko Jiménez. The second for being related to Maite and having a supposed advantage, the first because, frankly, he doesn’t like her very much. From what could be read on Twitter, it seems that it is one of the decisions with the least emotion in the history of a reality show in our country and Begoña won’t have time or the yogurt in the fridge will go bad before returning.
But to what we are going: Does this work?
The first edition of ‘Nightmare in Paradise’ premiered with a 13.5% share and was considered an absurd failure for Mediaset. The second edition has dropped three points, up to 10.7% and barely 1,028,000 viewers. In other words: nobody has cared about the new casting, or that it is shorter, nor the siren songs of Telecinco.
But the chain has to do something (except come up with new ideas) while It’s been a while for the premiere of ‘Survivientes 2023’, its only lifeboat before dwindling audiences that would drown anyone but in which for some reason the Fuencarral chain seems to swim at ease. For some reason, the chain has bet everything on changing presenters, leaving Lara Álvarez aside and putting Nagore Robles in her place. It hasn’t been enough for people to flock back to an outdated model of making television.
Luckily, it’s only two months of nothing. Let it be light
