Doran Smith and David Squillante are a brave couple who will never forget their honeymoon, because after waiting two years to be able to take this well-deserved vacation, they found an emergency situation on one of the tours they were taking around the city of Barcelona, Spain.
The couple traveled from Bristol, Rhode Island in the United States, to the European city to enjoy a few quiet days and finally enjoy their honeymoon, since their trip had been postponed due to the pandemic. Although it seems that they arrived at the right time to be able to offer their help in a complicated moment.
That day, the spouses had a contemplated itinerary, which included visiting a park, like any tourist couple. Doran and David walked calmly, with their phones in hand, recording what they found in their path, until they noticed that something strange was happening after a group of scared women came out of a building screaming. It was Doran who first noticed the fire.
I saw a flame coming out of the entrance, next to the door through which these women had come out. Oh my God, there’s a fire.

Without hesitation, David ran into the building to see if he could help with anything, at that moment, the man realized that he was in a nursery. Although he understood that he could not easily communicate with people due to language barriers, he was determined to help.
Instinct took over. I found myself looking at 15, 20 sleeping babies and I immediately lined them up and we started grabbing them, putting them in the crib. It was probably like ten minutes, but it seemed like an instant and everything turned out fine.
Fortunately, other people also intervened to help rescue the babies, because although the bedroom was not on fire, it was full of smoke, so they carried the cribs with the babies to the entrance, where Doran helped move them to a place where they could be safe.
The fire appears to have been caused by an electrical fault. Once the situation was under control, with the firefighters in charge, the spouses continued on their way to the park to make the visit they had planned.
On their return to the United States, both commented to different media outlets on the importance of always being willing to offer help to others, because that day there were no human losses to mourn due to the participation of people who, like these heroes, they were not afraid to face danger in order to save lives.
