double delivery of Devil’s Reign this month to pick up speed in the plot offered by Zdarsky and Checchetto. Panini Comics enters the old Avengers mansion as the election campaign begins that will pit the Kingpin against Luke Cage.
The well-known uses of electoral trickery
Using fear in the population is a resource that has recently served to move many votes in favor of some political parties to the detriment of others. In the US they have even suffered an invasion of the Capitol in Washington DC, seat of the US Congress, when a candidate lost the elections for the country’s presidency. Precisely instilling that fear is the objective of Wilson Fisk, that they vote for him because the alternative is worse than him, they bring problems in the form of combats with superpowers that put at risk the public integrity of the citizens and the movable property of the city.
In the midst of the campaign, he has launched a new law against superpowers. But precisely that small legal loophole, under the supervision of the District Attorney, will be the one that allows Luke Cage to run against him in an election that is presumed intense and where the trump card of terror will be difficult for the heroes to solve. . No matter how many times they have managed to save New York City or the world itself or the entire universe, they are now listed as threats and persecuted by the Thunderbolts, who we all know are criminals who now wear a badge that gives them authority, al just like the stormtroopers of the same name.
This season wears purple
Zebediah Killgrave. A name that should sound familiar to most. He made life impossible for Jessica Jones but the two major appearances of him have been manipulated by another villain who uses his influence and control over the rest of the people, except those with a strong character. The first took place in the Marvel Graphic Novel Emperor Death, when Victor Von Death used him prisoner inside a psychoprism that amplified his power. Now Fisk does practically the same thing, although Chip Zdarsky is in charge of pointing out precisely that reference.
The good of Killgrave has as a villain the name of the Purple Man, mainly due to the color that his skin shows. But he is not the only one of his lineage that appears here because we have his children, the ones who made Wilson Fisk unable to see in his dossier (or anyone else) who is behind the identity of Daredevil, which has been the origin of everything this conflict that has been mounted with the objective of the former Kingpin of crime to reach even greater heights, such as the Presidency of the country.
The parade of heroes and villains
From the previous number of Devil’s Reign We have been verifying that the action of the Thunderbolts has had its successes and its failures. So we already have a good handful of heroes behind bars, as is the case of the marriage formed by Reed and Susan Richards or Ben Reilly in his newly released facet of the titular Spiderman. The dispute seems difficult but there are moments distributed in this double staple that are very worthwhile because many times we do not see those facets in some characters.
But Zdarsky has not limited himself to heroes in the Devil’s Reign, the villains not only form the chasing group but Otto Octavius, Doctor Octopus, has taken control of Mister Fantastic’s laboratory, including access to the Eternal Portal. Meanwhile we also see how other plots are diverted towards other collections such as the one starring Elektra in her role as Devil Guardian in Daredevil, the woman without fear or others that we can enjoy in the Compendium volume that will be released later this month.
For his part, Marco Checchetto continues to be brilliant in all aspects, with a very cinematographic style, with well-studied shots, fluid in each movement, even the most subtle. The logical choice after carrying most of the weight of the Cuernecitos main series in the last three years. Devil’s Reign is in fact the culmination of that outstanding stage of Daredevil, so in these pages an entire era is closing.
