On October 21, 2021, during the rehearsal of a scene from the film Rust, actor Alec Baldwin detonated a firearm with which he accidentally killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. It has recently emerged that almost two years after the tragedy and after being accused of involuntary manslaughter, the prosecution withdrew the charges against the actor.
Although the prosecution has not given the official notice, Baldwin’s lawyers gave this good news to the media through a statement in which they pointed out how happy they are with the decision to dismiss the case and, at the same time, they encouraged a proper investigation into the terrible accident.
Due to this news, the actor shared an emotional message of gratitude to his wife and mother of his seven children. In addition, he mentioned his thanks to his lawyer Luke Nikas.
I owe everything I have to this woman (and to you Luke).
In addition to this news, on April 20 it was announced that the producer of the film Rust resumed filming in Montana, 18 months after the fatal accident, as we remember that this occurred while the actor was rehearsing during filming in New Mexico, with a weapon that should have been a blank but was loaded.
After preliminary investigations, the person in charge of the security protocol during the recording, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, was also charged with involuntary manslaughter, while the assistant director, David Halls, in charge of delivering the weapon to the actor, accepted the charge of misdemeanor in an agreement with the Prosecutor’s Office.
It should be noted that last month, the film’s producer and the New Mexico authorities reached an agreement, for which the company paid a fine of $100,000 for the security flaws in the filming, which were found in the investigation. of the case.
For his part, Alec Baldwin has always denied any responsibility for the events and, despite having been released, several conditions were imposed on him, such as not drinking alcohol, not possessing firearms and not speaking with witnesses to the accident. According to the media, it is not ruled out that new charges may be brought against him, albeit less serious.
