The DC Universe won’t just encompass the Gods and Monsters stories, as James Gunn looks to bring more of the Vertigo-published storylines to the big screen.
Since 1993, when DC Comics took the step of bringing its boldest stories to the Vertigo imprint, stories emanating from this imprint have captivated millions of readers, including DC Studios co-chairman James Gunn.
Do not miss: Vertigo: The comics that defied expectations
On January 13, 1993, under the leadership of Karen Berger, DC Comics launched the Vertigo Comics imprint, which published stories aimed at a more mature audience. Under the Vertigo banner, DC encompassed stories that defied expectations through fantasy, drama, horror and mystery.
In January 2023 James Gunn announced the first productions of Episode 1: Gods and Monsters, which included the Swamp Thing movie.
This will be the first Vertigo story to be included at this stage, which could have more stories emanating from this label, according to what Gunn mentioned on his twitter account.
Swamp Thing was in Vertigo comics, but he was really a DC character. That said, we’re dealing with a couple potential things with Vertigo – comics that I really adored.

“The Swamp Thing was in the Vertigo comics, but was actually a DC character. That being said, we’re dealing with a couple of potential things with Vertigo – comics that I really love.”
Constantine 2 is currently in development, which will be part of the Elseworlds, as well as the second season of the Sandman and Sweet Tooth series.
Vertigo dominated the scene with titles such as Preacher, American Vampire, 100 Bullets, Fables, Hellblazer, Promethea, Transmetropolitan and several more that became cult titles.
Over time the name of Vertigo evolved, first to DC Vertigo, and now this label comes with DC Black Label.
