Taking advantage of the last game of the NBA Finals, HBO has revealed the premiere date and a first trailer for the second season of his basketball drama ‘Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty’. The new episodes will land from August 6 (the next day in Spain) and will take us to a new decade.
new decade
After ending in the late 1980s, these new episodes will take us to those early years of the decade, ending in 1984. In the center, as we see both in the trailer and in the synopsis provided by the channel, the on-court matchup between Magic Johnson (Quincy Isaiah) and Larry Bird (Sean Patrick Small). Lakers vs. Celtics.
As in the initial season, this season 2 has a fairly large cast with John C. Reilly, Adrien Brody, Jason Clarke, Gaby Hoffmann, Jason Segel, Hadley RobinsonDeVaughn Nixon, Solomon Hughes, Tamera Tomakili, Brett Cullen, Stephen Adly Guirgis, Spencer Garrett, Molly Gordon, Joey Brooks, Delante Desouza, Jimel Atkins, Austin Aaron, McCabe Slye, Thomas Mann, Gillian Jacobs, Michael Chiklis and Rob Morgan, among others.
Based on Jeff Pearlman’s book ‘Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s’, Max Borenstein is the showrunner and co-creator with Jim Hecht of the series, which was sponsored by Adam McKay, who directed its pilot. Directing is, among others, Salli Richardson-Whitfield.
While ‘Victory Time’ is vibrant sports fiction, its first season he had a somewhat overloaded style, making the final result somewhat “muddy”. We will have to see what they do with this new season because I think the history of that generation of Los Angeles Lakers is fascinating.
