“Gladiator 2” is already a reality and the preparations for the long-awaited sequel to “Gladiator”, the popular and acclaimed film released in 2000 are underway. Once again it will be the great Ridley Scott who will direct the production. But the characters will change practically in their entirety, as well as the protagonists.
We will no longer see in the new film the slave Máximo Décimo Meridio (played by Russell Crowe in “Gladiator”) or the hateful Emperor Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix). Only the characters of Lucius and his mother, Lucilla (who will once again be played by Connie Nielsen) will be repeated. Precisely Lucius will be the axis of the sequel to “Gladiator”, although already in a young adult version. And, among the actors already confirmed, the Irishman stands out Paul Mescalwho will play the main character.
This is how Paul Mescal looks in his preparation to star in “Gladiator 2”
Paul Mescal (27) rose to fame after his participation in the series “Normal People”, which was all the rage during the most critical moment of the pandemic. However, his great consecration came with his 2023 Oscar Award nomination for the movie “Aftersun”. Precisely Mescal will play the aforementioned Lucius, son of Lucilla and nephew of Commodus in the spin off of “Gladiator”. It will be in his era as Roman emperor.
While little by little information about the plot, the cast and the pre-production of “Gladiator 2”in the last hours a video was leaked on social networks where you can see Paul Mescal completing an arduous training routine to put himself in the shoes of Emperor Lucius.
And unlike that Paul Mescal that we met in “Normal People” and in “Aftersun”, here his corpulent figure and marked musculature stand out. In fact, in the videos he is seen working with weights and with his torso bare, showing off his worked body and with which he will represent Lucius in “Gladiator 2”. Another of the actors already confirmed for the second part of “Gladiador” is the Chilean actor Pedro Pascal, who also had the consecrating role of him in the series “The Las of Us”.
