‘Rushmore Academy’ (1998)
Address: WesAnderson. Distribution: Jason Schwartzman, Olivia Williams, Bill Murray, Brian Cox, Seymour Cassel, Mason Gamble
My favorite Wes Anderson film in which many of the usual features of his cinema were already present, but without that style of his being so marked. In this case, we are facing a very particular high school comedy -it is acid and witty, but also with a highly accomplished bitterness- in which Anderson exhibits his talent for creating fascinating characters, which also helps to have two such inspired performances as the Jason Schwarzmann and Bill Murray.
Duration: 89 minutes (plus end credits)
‘Those in the tunnel’ (2016)
Address: Pepon Montero. Distribution: Arturo Valls, Raúl Cimas, Natalia de Molina, Neus Asensi, Manel Barceló, Alex Batllori, Abraham Fuya, Carmela Lloret, Pol López, Enrique Martínez, Violeta Rodríguez, Manolo Solo, Teresa Gimpera, Jesús Guzmán, María Alfonsa Rosso, Nuria Mencía
A very misunderstood black comedy at the time of its theatrical release, surely because nobody expected an uncompromising portrayal of the apathy in which the life of a group of survivors enters. Normally movies always stay on the high price of heroism like this, but here you dig into what comes next and what appears on the screen can be more painful than fun for many. By the way, Arturo Valls he has never played better with his image than here.
Criticism of ‘Those in the tunnel’
Duration: 89 minutes (plus end credits)
‘Saint Maud’ (‘Saint Maud’, 2019)
Address: Rose Glass. Distribution: Morfydd Clark, Jennifer Ehle, Lily Knight, Lily Frazer, Turlough Convery
A psychological horror film in which morphydd clark, currently well known thanks to giving life to Galadriel in ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’, offers an intense and disturbing performance. In her way, it could have been a kind of twisted female version of ‘Joker’, although reducing it to that would be a mistake, since here religious fanaticism plays a fundamental role in the evolution of history.
‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’
Criticism of ‘Saint Maud’
Duration: 79 minutes (plus end credits)
‘Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Vegetables’ (‘Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit’, 2005)
Address: Nick Park and Steve Box. vocal cast: Peter Sallis, Ralph Fiennes, Helena Bonham Carter, Peter Kay
The study aardman has brought many joys to animated film lovers over the years, but it is clear that the characters of Wallace and Gromit are probably the great jewel in the crown for them. The shorts starring them were already quite cute, but personally I enjoy this feature film even more, to the point that I consider it one of the best animated films of all time.
Duration: 79 minutes (plus end credits)
