On July 28, during a concert by the popular band from k pop Mirror, at the Hong Kong Coliseum, a giant screen fell onto the stage, fully impacting two backup dancers, who were injured. The causes of the incident are already being investigated.
The police informed local media that the injured dancers received first aid by paramedics from the venue and were later transferred by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Additionally, three audience members were treated for concussion.
The hospital reported that one of the injured suffered a neck injury, although a spinal cord injury is suspected, so his condition is reported as serious, while the second victim suffered head injuries and is reported stable.
Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee announced that the cause of the mishap is now being fully investigated:
I have directed the relevant authorities to fully investigate the accident and review the safety requirements of similar events to ensure the protection of the artists, workers and members of the public.
The strong video of the incident shows the large screen hanging from the stage suddenly wobble. As the dancers walk onto the stage, the stage immediately collapses on top of them.
The venue was filled with screams from the frightened audience after witnessing the tragic event. Shortly after, the organizers of the concert took the stage to announce the cancellation of the presentation and ask the more than 10,000 attendees to leave the performance hall.
Mirror is a 12-member boy group that debuted in 2018. They are currently the most popular boy group in Hong Kong. The concert was scheduled to take place at the Hong Kong Coliseum from July 25 to August 6. So far, more than 10,000 people have signed a petition urging concert organizers to take better care of band members.
