Back in 2010, we said goodbye to ‘password’, the fun program presented by Luján Argüelles in Cuatro and that gave us moments to remember like “April-Cerral” with Elena Furiase. 12 years later, the production company Fremantle has announced that will recover the format thanks to Atresmedia.

The production company Fremantle, responsible for programs such as ‘Mask Singer’ or ‘Nightmare in Paradise’, has announced at MIPCOM that it will return to ‘Password’. The company, which has already produced the previous editions, has closed an agreement with Atresmedia to carry out this new stage competition.
As explained by Nathalie García (CEO of Fremantle in Spain), it is about an “adaptable and timeless” format, which has been of interest for a long time. It has been successfully adapted all over the world and the recent version of 2022 with Keke Palmer and Jimmy Fallon only underlines its great reception among the public.
‘Password’ is an adaptation of the American format created by Bob Stewart for CBS in 1961. The Spanish version was broadcast in Cuatro, between 2008 and 2010, and was Presented by Luján Argüelles and Ana Milanin its second stage.
It is a contest of guess words avoiding saying the word itself or derivatives. Contestants compete in pairs, made up of one anonymous member and one celebrity, and one must get the other to guess the secret word, or passwordthrough keywords. The couple that manages to guess the most password in the shortest time possible, win.
With a view to its release in 2023, it would arrive 15 years after the premiere of the first season of ‘Password’ in Spain, it seems that we will finally be able to see the contest on broadcast again. It is not yet known on which Atresmedia channel it would be released (or if it would go directly to Atresplayer Premium), or who will present it, although Luján Argüelles would be delighted to be able to return to lead this long-awaited new stage.
