In the series The Sandman we had the actress Kirby Howell-Baptiste playing the Eternal created by Neil Gaiman, who gave us several of the most moving scenes of the first season.
However, this is not Death’s debut in an audiovisual medium, since in 2019 Warner Bros. Animation brought us the first approach to Morpheus’ favorite sister with DC Showcase: Death.
In this animated short we follow the story of Vincent, a man with a passion for painting and the arts. Despite studying dentistry, Vincent’s dream focuses on painting, something for which he is fired from Arkham Asylum.
When Vincent enters a bar, he sees a beautiful, gothic-looking woman who storms out as the sirens sound.
The artist returns to his apartment and falls asleep on his couch, until he hears the noise of an accident. Vincent sees the woman, who endures the screams of two strangers. When Vincent leaves, the woman is alone, and she agrees to see her work.
Vincent has four demons that try to ridicule him when he begins to paint, but when he becomes more confident, these demons are extinguished, until Vincent realizes that this woman is Death, who guides Vincent to the afterlife, in a shocking story.
Leading the voice cast includes Leonardo Nam as Vincent Omata and actress Jamie Chung as Death in this animated short that was released as bonus material for the animated film Wonder Woman: Bloodline.
