Let’s remember the year 2005, when Constantine arrived in movie theaters, in a tape that over time became a cult feature film, which adapted the Dangerous Habits arc, authored by Garth Ennis.
Constantine earned 230 million dollars, taking into account the 100 million budget it had, but one of his goals had been met, John Constantine began to be known by readers from all over the world, as well as opening the door to Vertigo Comics in cinema.
Akiva Goldsman, Constantine’s screenwriter, has confirmed in an interview for Deadline that Constantine 2 is already underway, and this is due to pressure from Keanu Reeves.
“This is a credit to Keanu, who has said endlessly, “this is the character I want to return to.” Finally, he said it so many times that he stayed”.
Will Constantine 2 connect to the DC Universe?
Goldsman made it clear that this Constantine sequel will be made under the DC Elseworlds label, just like The Batman II and Joker 2: Foilè a Deux, films that will arrive between 2024 and 2025.
The screenwriter also pointed out that in Constantine 2 the detective of the paranormal will continue to fight the evils that could plague the world of mortals.
“The character is very much Keanu [Reeves] and the way he and Francis [Lawrence] they saw the world of good and evil, and the wonderful authentic noir where there is a world behind the world of good and evil coexist with our correct world. up close… Other than that, we’re still figuring it out as I write the script“.
