That Showtime has in ‘Dexter’ one of its strengths is something that shows. In fact, we were surprised to learn next week that they had discarded a season 2 of ‘Dexter: New Blood’ to favor the development of a prequel. It seems that there has been a change of plans and it is that from the chain they want an entire expanded universe with various prequels, sequels and spin-offs.
From the channel they have announced that they have given the green light to both the series of ‘Dexter: Origins‘, prequel that will take us through the young years of Dexter Morgan, as to the development of “the following” ‘Dexter: New Blood‘ (don’t call it season two) which will indeed follow his son Harrison’s urge to kill. This second project is still in an early phase.
These sequels and prequels are not the only ones in development, since the channel claims to have other spin-offs on the table that will expand the story of several of the characters in the series. This includes one on the exploits of the iconic Trinity Killer (played by John Lithgow), one of the most mythical villains of the entire series.
The new Dexters
With the provisional title of ‘Dexter: Origins’ we will travel years before the original series began, with a young Morgan just graduated and joining the Miami Metro. Here we will meet the younger versions of the agents and, of course, both the sister (Deb) and a Harry who is still alive and kicking.
On the other hand, ‘Dexter: New Blood’ will be a new incarnation of the series that ended last year (Honestly, I don’t know why they avoid calling it season 2). In this we will see Harrison (Jack Alcott) arriving in New York after fleeing at the end of, ahem, ‘Dexter New Blood’. There he will have to deal with his murderous urge and yes, indeed, like father like son.
