There is no doubt that the news of the week, of the month and, probably, one of those that will mark the closing chronicles of this 2022, is the death of Queen Elizabeth II of England. A loss of an essential figure to understand the European and world history of the last 70 years and whose importance has led to numerous cinematographic and television works.
epitome of nobility
Probably one of the most celebrated is ‘The Queen’; the film directed by Stephen Frears released in 2006 and starring a Helen Mirren who managed to win the Oscar for best actress thanks to his portrait of the British monarch.
Knowing this, it is understandable that the interpreter issued a release —and shared a similar post on his Instagram account— lamenting the death of Elizabeth II.
“I am grieving, along with the rest of my country, the passing of a great queen. I am proud to be able to belong to the Elizabethan era. If there was a definition of nobility, Elizabeth Windsor embodied it.”
“I am proud to be Elizabethan. We mourn a woman who, with or without the crown, was the epitome of nobility.”
This same year, during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Mirren spoke in this way about his relationship with the figure of Queen Elizabeth.
“For me, it was always like Big Ben. It was just always there. “The queen came to the throne when I was about seven years old. She has been there my whole life. I never paid attention to her until I began to document myself about her as a person, as a human being. Then I discovered a great admiration and respect for her. I have a feeling that [mi interpretación en ‘The Queen’] was seen and appreciated. I’ve never heard of it, and I never will.”
Some words that align with the respect that the actress manifested towards the Windsor during her acceptance speech for the Oscar.
“For more than fifty years, Elizabeth Windsor has maintained her dignity, her sense of duty, and her haircut. She has kept her feet on the ground, her hat on her head, her purse on her arm, and she has weathered many, many I applaud her courage and perseverance. And I thank her, because if it weren’t for her, I probably wouldn’t be here.”
