We continue with the trickle of series that HBO Max is getting rid of little by little. If we have already talked about cases like ‘Westworld’ and the cancellation and withdrawal of ‘Minx’ (which already had season 2 recorded), the new ones to join the scaffold They are ‘Raised by Wolves’ and ‘The Time Traveler’s Woman’, which will soon disappear from the platform’s catalogue.
But, as we have already been warning, this does not mean that the series are in limbo, since Warner Bros. Discovery have confirmed that the plan is to license the broadcast rights of these series to other platforms streaming, specifically the free ones (called FAST).
In this way, Warner would be preparing a library of series to sell to third parties. Come on, what has always been called the “syndication” of a series on traditional television (that is, license it to other channels than the original ones) but in a streaming version.
This means that, in the absence of Warner having its own free streaming service with advertising (which they are working on), HBO’s own series such as ‘Westworld’ or ‘The Nevers’ They could be seen for free on platforms such as Pluto TV, Rakuten TV and the like (Freevee and even Peacock…). It will not be the only destination but it will somehow be the priority.
This in the case of their own productions. External ones like ‘Minx’ or ‘Love Life’ will return to their “owners”/studios and they will see how they breathe new life into their series. In the case of the comedy about the pornographic magazine, they have to find a house to broadcast the unpublished season.
All the series that disappear from HBO Max
David Zaslav recently justified these outings as a closet cleanout:
“It is more disastrous than we thought, much worse than we thought. We opened the closet and things fell out. We are fixing them. Some things are better than we think deep down, talent is better than we thought. But there was a lot that was unexpectedly worse than we thought.
»All these amortizations… we do not remove a single series from a platform that is going to help us in some way»
