The already champion set the fastest time in the last seconds of the session on soft tires (1:35.825).
Charles Leclerc had to settle for second position, more than three tenths behind (1:36.145).
Carlos Sainz was third, close to the time of his teammate (1:36.271), with the Mexican Sergio ‘Checo’ Pérez (Red Bull) fourth, the British Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) fifth and the Spanish Fernando Alonso sixth, ahead of the British George Russell (Mercedes), on the day that marks the 16th anniversary of his second world championship.
Verstappen had been the first to beat (1:36.705) the best time on Friday, the one that Leclerc had achieved (1:36.810), a time that other drivers continued to polish, such as Hamilton, with an ephemeral reign in the session, and ‘ Checo’ Pérez (1:36.578), who led the table for the longest time.
The German Mick Schumacher (Haas) had a mechanical problem with the car when eight minutes of the race had not yet passed -without setting a time- and he was unable to return to practice until twelve minutes remained.
The Australian Daniel Ricciardo (McLaren) also took the road to the pits due to an incident in the session, who reported a problem with the brake pedal on the radio that was quickly solved.
The pilots had to dodge the bags that flew, with the wind, around the Austin track, which at midnight (CET) will host the qualifying for the Grand Prix.
