I think we can say that one of the first big stonings so far in 2023 has been towards ‘Velma’. The Scooby Doo animated series led by Mindy Kaling was the subject of one of the largest waves of negative criticism in living memory. Still, the series has been a hit for HBO Max and is already preparing its season 2.
We have learned this through an extensive profile around Channing Dungey, CEO of Warner Bros Television, who has spoken to Deadline about the state of the comedies they produce: from ‘Ted Lasso’ to ‘Abbott College.’ At the end of it we read that his team was working on season 2 of the animated series.
Velma’s Paradox
A renewal that, although it has not been officially announced, we are not surprised. Despite the criticism, ‘Velma’ has been the most watched original animated series in the platform’s brief history, so it was more than logical that we would have a new case.
Created by Charlie Grandy, season 1 of ‘Velma’ put the titular character trying to solve the mystery of the disappearance of her mother and that of other teenagers. Along with Kaling, Constance Wu, Glenn Howerton and Sam Richardson they lent their voices to the Scooby Doo gang.
