Toñita, former member of The academyrevealed in an interview with Gustavo Adolfo Infante, in the program The minute that changed my destiny, that she has suffered strong depressive crises, which have led her to think about suicide on four occasions.
The former academic confessed that the last time a thought of this magnitude crossed her mind was in November 2022 after the separation with her partner, with whom she had been married for more than 17 years.
During the interview, Toñita (also known as “La negra de oro”) talked about various aspects of her private life, such as her relationships with her ex-boyfriends, her time in The academymusical successes and the darkest moments he has gone through due to depression, confessing that he has tried to take his own life four times.
– A few days ago I had a very strong crisis of depression; It had been a while since that happened to me and suicide crossed my mind.
– How many times have you thought about committing suicide, Toñita?
– In my life… three times. This is the fourth.
“La negra de oro” confessed that the first time she thought of ending her life was at the age of 10 due to the separation of her parents. Only three years later, dark thoughts reappeared in her mind, as she did not know what to do with her life.
Although she did not reveal the third time that this crossed her mind, Toñita confessed that the last time she went through something similar was in November 2022, after the divorce with her husband Luis Manuel, with whom she had been married for 17 years.
Demons always get to you. The demons that you have been dragging since childhood, the demons that you are grasping in your youth, the demons that you are currently grasping come together and that is when the disaster begins.
Gustavo Adolfo questioned the singer about the reason why she decided not to end her life and she confessed that it was all due to the love and support of her loved ones, especially her daughter.
– Who told you not to? An internal voice or someone there?
– Luis has always said ‘When you want to do it, think about it a little bit; call me, the time doesn’t matter’. I have friends who have told me ‘You are not alone, you call me, you look for me and you will always find me, we can get ahead’. At that moment I held on as long as I could, the next day I asked for help and they told me ‘You have a precious daughter for whom you have to get ahead, you can’t lose yourself because your daughter needs you, your mother, your brothers’.
The driver closed the topic by cordially inviting Toñita to see a mental health specialist, because no one should go through a situation like this.
