“I never thought it could last forever. The end has almost always been on my mind,” Jesse Armstrong said in the note published last Thursday.
“I had a meeting with the other writers before we started writing Season 4, around November or December 2021, and I said, ‘Look, I think this should be the end. But what do you think? (…) and the decision to end (the series) was reinforced throughout the writing,” he said.
Acclaimed by both the public and critics, the HBO production succession (Succession) is a dark, dramatic and black humor chronicle of a powerful family fighting to take control of a conglomerate of companies, particularly the media. The first episode aired in 2018.
It has already won numerous awards, including the best drama series in 2022 at the Emmy Awards, the equivalent of the Oscars on American television.
The series is inspired by tycoons Sumner Redstone and Rupert Murdoch, whose News Corp group is one of the world’s largest media empires, including the Fox channels and The Times and Sun newspapers in the UK.
