Also known as acting in self-defense, this right is something difficult to prove although not impossible, since there are cases in which it is proven that an injustice or misfortune towards the true victim was avoided. As proof of this, the story of a woman in Guatemala who took her husband’s life after he burned her baby with atole was recently revealed.
This is María del Carmen Chay, a 20-year-old Guatemalan woman who was arrested on October 12 by the authorities of the city of Huehuetenango, Guatemala, for having murdered her husband, Francisco Ventura, a man of whom she was a victim of violence. psychological, sexual, physical and economic from the age of 14.
According to the investigators of the case, the events that led the woman to take her husband’s life occurred when María del Carmen was attending her corn stall. Her husband came to bother her repeatedly, which almost caused the pot she works with to almost fall on her children.

Before the event, the woman was immediately arrested by the corresponding authorities and was brought before a jury to decide her legal situation. In the trial it was shown that María del Carmen and her children were victims of violence by the now deceased. On October 18, the case was closed and the woman managed to regain her freedom.
