The beauty of a charming town is not measured by its number of square kilometers and the conclusive proof is Pujalt, a small but particularly beautiful place in the Anoia Region, in Barcelona. Its stone houses seem decorated and the air that is breathed is purely mountainous. Furthermore, although One arrives at Pujalt attracted by its beauty, one ends up falling in love, above all, with its tranquility. A perfect town to disconnect and that is not known by many.
If Pujalt had a taste, it would be as old as a good wine. In addition, its traditional architecture can be enjoyed by walking through its few and solitary narrow streets that could be described as a haven of peace and history.
Pujalt’s castle it was part of the domains of the county of Cerdanya being its lords the Cervera family. However, in 1251 the territory passed into the hands of King Jaime I of Aragon and in 1375 the castle became the possession of the Cardona family, who retained control until the end of the estates. However, currently there is nothing left of that construction other than ruins.
What does remain standing is the church of Sant Andreu de Pujalt, which is already mentioned in texts from the 11th century. It is a late romanesque style building which has been modified and restored on various occasions. However, the apse has disappeared and a bell tower was added as well as side chapels.
At the entrance to the town is the chapel of La Concepción, built in 1399. It has a single nave covered with a pointed vault and inside it is a polychrome image from the 14th century that represents the Virgin with the child.
However, recent memory has a great role in Pujalt. And it is that, in what was the training camp of the XVIII Corps of the Popular Army of the Republic during the Civil War, museum facilities have been installed. It is an interpretation center that allows the visitor know what life was like in the town in this hard stage of the history of Spainthe transformations that took place and their consequences.
Another charm of the Catalan town is its clear sky and low light pollution, which make a visit to the Pujalt Observatory highly recommended. They organize meteorological and astronomical observations, talks, courses and visits to the facilities.
