Marvel has just made official the launch of a movie of ‘The Thunderbolts’, a group of characters that could be defined as the company’s Suicide Squad. This possibility had been rumored for a long time, but it has not been until now when the thing has finally been serious.
All the details about ‘The Thunderbolts’
For now, Marvel has signed Jake Schreier to direct the film. A surprising choice, since he is responsible for titles such as ‘A Friend for Frank’ or ‘Paper Towns’, as well as episodes for series such as ‘Kidding’ or ‘New Cherry Flavor’. At first no one would have bet on him.
What ‘The Thunderbolts’ still does not have are protagonists, so everything indicates that it is a long-term project that probably will not be part of Marvel’s current Phase 4. In exchange, we also already know that the screenwriter will be Eric Pearsonwho has previously collaborated with Marvel on titles like ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ or ‘Black Widow’.
The story of ‘The Thunderbolts’ will revolve around a group of supervillains or at least characters who at some point in the history of the MCU have sided with the bad guys, but all of them reformed, who perform a series of missions for the government.
It is unknown which characters will be chosen, but there are several who were once part of the Thunderbolts in the comics, from Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) to Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), not forgetting Baron Zemo (Daniel Bruhl). In addition, he also opens the door to get the Punisher back (Jon Bernthal) or Luke Cage (Mike Colter) after the arrival on Disney+ of the series originally released on Netflix.
