Paramount+ has commissioned new seasons of ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ and ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’. The first has been renewed for a third season of 10 episodes and Lower Decks returns with a fifth of also 10 episodes. This announcement comes at the same time that the platform confirms that the new seasons of both series will premiere this summer. ‘SNW’ on June 15 and the animated series undated, but “in late summer.”
‘Strange New Worlds’ has been hailed by fans as a true heir to the classic science fiction serieswhich follows Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount), Science Officer Spock (Ethan Peck) and Number One (Rebecca Romijn) as they explore new worlds around the galaxy in the years before Captain Kirk boards the USS Enterprise, kind of a full-blown prequel.
The series is produced by CBS Studios, Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers are co-showrunners. while Goldsman, Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet serve as producers. ‘Lower Decks’ was created by Mike McMahan, and in season 4 an unknown force is destroying starships and threatening galactic peace.

Starfleet crew residing on the “lower decks” of the USS include Ensign Beckett Mariner (voiced by Tawny Newsome), Ensign Brad Boimler (Jack Quaid), Ensign Tendi (Noël Wells), and Ensign Rutherford ( Eugen Cordero). It was produced by CBS’s Eye Animation Productions, Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. It is expected that in season 2 of Strange New Worlds there will be a crossover with the animated series.
