The Marvel Studios series Loki first introduced us to the Marvel multiverse, and getting crazier with each episode, but will the same thing happen in season 2?
The moment the Multiverse was first introduced as a concept for the MCU, viewers knew that things could get pretty crazy at any moment. The TVA of the series and the introduction of the Variants threw audiences into the deep end of madness. After all, there was a Loki alligator; something that the vast majority of fans would not have expected to exist ten years ago.
And it got crazier and crazier as the series progressed, but will the next season of the series outdo itself?
With Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness already in theaters, there is a lot of Loki in it, not in vain, the screenwriter of the series, also wrote the script for the film by Sam Raimi, and showing in it the former sorcerer supreme walking in his dreams with the corpse of one of his variants. Anything is possible from here on out.
In an interview with polygonalMichael Waldron, screenwriter of Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnessif the second season with Tom Hiddleston’s god of deception would go even crazier than the previous one.
In response, Waldron, who is an executive producer for the second season, admitted that “don’t know if that could get weirder than what they did in season 1”but what “They are always looking to outdo themselves.”
“I don’t know if I could get any weirder than Season 1… we had an alligator drinking wine from a kiddie pool. That felt like the peak of Mount Everest, weird! I think there are a lot of opportunities there. We’re always looking to outdo ourselves, but hopefully, it’s always character-driven. And yes, I learned in this movie once again, no idea is too crazy. You can write Stephen Strange possessing his own corpse, and maybe you’ll end up filming it. That encourages me to be bold, which is good.”.
As for all the craziness that happened in Doc Strange 2Waldron said that “nothing is in the movie by accident:”
“…nothing is in the film by accident. Kevin certainly is aware of the implications of it all, you know? They are not spirits of the damned just for the sake of the damned.”
With Loki laying the groundwork for the world they’re exploring, often the most time-consuming piece of a new series, and with the multiverse having exploded, season two is sure to get even crazier than the last.
No doubt much of that craziness will come from the new Loki variants. Maybe fans will see people like Alligator Loki or Throg again; after all, Chris Hemsworth was willing to voice the character himself.
The second season is weeks away from the start of production in London. This likely places the project’s premiere somewhere in the summer of 2023, after the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniawhich will introduce Jonathan Majors’ cruel variant of He Who Remains, Kang the Conqueror.
